Developers really need to start understanding the meaning of the phrase "show, don't tell"... it doesn't just apply to books and articles and essays.. it also applies to game writing. As soon as the game opened with not one, nor two, but 3+ big hunks of text I knew I was in for trouble. Sure enough, then came the many, many poorly written "in-game notes left by someone who's explaining everything in an out-of-character way" that I'm honestly just so tired of.A LOT of faux pas design-wise as well, like an invisible wall about 3 feet into the water in the very beginning area if you decide to wade out into the water. (This is called player gating in game design. You're supposed to put logical boundaries and obstructions in your levels which makes a player feel like there's a real reason they can't go past a certain area. An invisible wall, especially not one very far back into a body of water, is an unexcusable design blunder that I'd expect from something like Spyro the Dragon on N64 10+ years ago.) But mostly it's just the poor writing (and use of a "notes system" in the most trite way) that's a complete put-off right from the get go.The environments are beautiful done and I can see myself getting into the atmosphere, but as soon as my PC went to load the next area just 15 minutes into the game, it froze entirely and crashed. I have an ASUS ROG gaming laptop about 3 years old with NVidia 860m so, getting old, but definitely capable of loading this stuff in this game. Don't know what that error is all about, but there's nothing to this in the first 15 minutes that makes me say "wow I HAVE to fix that game crash error because i really want to know x, y, z!!!!!" The exposition is, again, all tell, no show. In specific terms, that means poor visual storytelling. In game design, that's already a flaw, but it can be compensated with stellar writing (textual notes, audio logs, narrator, character dialogue, etc.) but in the little bit I played, this game is absolutely flat in terms of anything to do with story, exposition, etc.I'm really getting tired of paying money for games that got released before the developers decided a story (and good delivery of it) means anything to the player base. It's like a Twinkie with no creme filling. It feels dry and hollow and you feel duped by who you bought it from.If you want to make a tech demo, call it a tech demo, and don't charge this price for it. Go play SOMA front to back and then take another look at this game, and you'll see how to improve it vastly (even on a much smaller budget)If I ever play this again I'll update my review, if I can get past the crashes and walls of text that are cheaply trying to explain everything that's happening like a bad 80's action cartoonAgain though the general atmosphere and environment design were beautiful. If you like sitting there reading text which totally breaks the immersion, you'll probably enjoy this game enough to slog through a good portion of it.. Good game, feels good and looks good, nice and spooky. Only thing I wish was in it "so far" is a button that would let me lean to peek around corners, many times im hiding behind a box or wal trying to sneaky beaky my way around the corner a little bit to see sexy legs with her knives just to have her spot me because shes right there staring in my direction.. WOW! This games from Indie Developers and it's great, awesome use of the game engine and sounds and atmosphere right on the mark. Play is great to, Good level design theres a bad guy, but he's not chasing you all the time or are you running into him at every turn which is great compared to other games that take away from the eviroment from not letting you explore it because your constantly running around trying to avoid some monster chasing you. They did this very well and hope that a future installments will be about the same. Overall highly recommended .. Finally finished this game after little over 11 hours. Was it worth the price? I believe so. I easily got $16 of fun out of this. It probably took me longer than others because I ended up needing to wait for the Devs to add the improved brightness sliders and more save points. I couldn't see anything in the game(black screen everywhere I went). I also had a problem with the save points before they were fixed. The monster hits VERY hard and you can get two shot if you're not careful. With the original system, you could lose a boatload of progress when you died and that wasn't fun. It's much better now! I really enjoyed the story and the atmosphere as well as the puzzles, though I needed a little help on a couple. :PI'm not sure about replayability as there isn't really much reason to explore aside from collecting notes or potions and most of those are gotten on your first playthrough. I think I would dust this title off again if I were doing a marathon playthrough of all the episodes. But there needs to be an episode two for that. Hopefully more folks support this team so they can get the ball rolling on the next one. Grats to the Devs on a job well done and I look forward to the possible future Lethe: Episode Two!. Similar to Amnesia, runs good, and its scary...I recommend.. Although I am not into these sort of horror games, it's an amazing game that has a proper horror atmosphere and unique story, so if you are a fan of the genre I highly recommend it!PS : +1 for Greek production !
